The AWS Cloud Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure on Amazon Web Services. You will work across compute, storage, networking, and identity domains to ensure environments are optimized for performance, cost, and security. This role operates at the infrastructure layer and partners closely with application, security, and DevOps teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure including EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, ECS/EKS, Lambda, and related services.
Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
Ensure cloud environments adhere to security best practices including IAM least privilege, encryption at rest and in transit, and CIS/NIST alignment.
Monitor system health and capacity using CloudWatch, AWS Config, and third-party observability tools.
Automate routine operational tasks through scripting and workflow automation.
Support patch management, OS hardening, and AMI lifecycle management.
Manage backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity configurations.
Conduct cost optimization analysis and implement rightsizing and savings plan recommendations.
Collaborate with DevOps and development teams on environment provisioning and deployment pipelines.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
4+ years of hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and systems administration.
Strong proficiency with AWS core services: EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, Route 53, ELB/ALB.
Experience with IaC tools (Terraform strongly preferred; CloudFormation or CDK acceptable).
Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
Solid understanding of Linux/Unix systems administration.
Experience with networking fundamentals: subnetting, routing, DNS, firewalls.
Knowledge of cloud security frameworks and AWS security services (Security Hub, GuardDuty, Config).
Preferred Qualifications:
AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate/Professional.
Experience with multi-account AWS Organizations and Control Tower.
Exposure to container orchestration (EKS, ECS Fargate).
Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as NIST 800-53, CIS AWS Benchmark, or SOC 2.
Experience in a managed services or multi-tenant environment.
